Advancement:

JBBA Students are periodically given an opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge that they have acquired by means of belt examinations. Eligibility for examination is based on Master Instructor’s approval, along with review of school performance/grades and parents’ input, as applicable. Eligible students who successfully complete a belt examination are advanced to the next belt level. (*Prices effective: Feb. 1, 2008*) The fee for each under belt (red belt and below) examination is $60.00. The belt examination fee for 1st Dan black belt is $300.00; 2nd Dan – $350.00; 3rd Dan – $400.00; 4th Dan – $450.00; 5th Dan – $500.00; 6th Dan – $650.00. Students who do not successfully complete their first attempt at a belt examination will be given an opportunity for a “second-attempt” belt examination, based upon Master Instructor’s approval. All “second-attempt” belt examinations will be at no charge. Additionally, eligible students may apply for membership in the United States Head of Family Martial Arts Association through JBBA.

Tournament Competition:

We firmly believe in the benefits of competition. Tournaments present invaluable opportunities for each student to test his acquired skills in a controlled environment. Students can see the techniques of martial arts applied. JBBA does participate in local tournaments and/or around the region of Eastern North Carolina. Minor students must obtain parental consent. All participants must use appropriate protective gear, as dictated by tournament rules. JBBA students participating in tournaments are required to purchase protective gear. Participants are normally charged a tournament registration fee either per-event or one fee per-entry. These fees differ from one tournament to another. JBBA will provide timely information to students and parents about the details on all tournaments in which our school participates.Parents and friends are encouraged to attend tournament competitions, whenever possible, as a show of support for their student(s). It is common for tournaments to charge a spectator fee. This fee varies from one tournament to another.
